I have to laugh.  Chewy.com sent over a PetSafe SlimCat Interactive Feeder, I assume for Sherbert to review since he is twice the size of Haggis.  I love the concept of this, fill it with your cats daily portion of food, and if they want it they are going to have to work for it.  Great for a lazy cat like Sherbert who's daily goals include increasing the size of the dent on the back of the couch.

The SlimCat has a nice large opening so adding cat food is easy, and the openings for food to be dispensed can be adjusted from larger holes to smaller holes so the cat has to work a little bit more for food.  I was not sure how this would work in out house since we free feed, but we gave it a whirl.

I filled up the SlimCat and set the opening to the larger holes so it would be easier for the food to fall out and get the cats interested.  Sherbert checked it out, and true to his lazy nature, he quickly got the point of laying down and using his paw to move it around just enough for food to fall out.  I adjusted to the SlimCat to the smaller holes so it was harder for the food to fall out, and he was done.  I guess I'll just have to keep chasing him around the house every day to get him his exercise.

Haggis on the other hand, LOVES the SlimCat.  His human left the house a year ago to join the Navy, and he lost a bit of weight when she left.  It has been a bit of a struggle to get him to eat enough food to keep his weight up, but he adores treats.  I filled up the SlimCat with a 50/50 mix of food and treats and then rolled it out onto the floor for him.  The first couple of nights we had to put the ball away because he was so busy swatting at it and getting all the food and treats out.  I want him to eat more, but not while making so much noise at 2 am.

We now have a daily routine of filling up the SlimCat with a mixture of food and treats and he empties the ball everyday in addition to whatever he free feeds at the cat bowl.  The ball s pretty sturdy since the humans keep kicking it all over the place.  Haggis always leaves it right in the middle of the high traffic areas, probably to tell us he needs a refill.

PetSafe SlimCat Interactive Feeder is available in orange, pink, green, and blue
