When I think green tea, my brain immediately goes to little baggies of tea that need to be steeped, even though I know I have heard of matcha green tea powder in the past. I was sent a bag of Organic Matcha Green Tea Powder in exchange for my honest review.

As soon as the bag arrived I had to go and break into it.  I have never tried green tea powder, so I learned the hard way that a little goes a long ways.  I did not bother looking up any recipes, and tried to mix a tablespoon of the powder into 1 cup hot water, 1/2 cup milk, and some honey to make some sort of green tea latte.  It was way too strong.  I ended up poring it into my blender and kept adding ice, milk, and sugar until I ended up with 8 cups of a green tea latte smoothie, which tasted fantastic.  Both my daughters loved the flavor, and guzzled down the smoothie.

Learning from my experience, I lowered the amount of matcha green tea powder and made a mango green tea smoothie.

Ingredients:
1 cup water
2 ripe mango's cut into chunks
1 teaspoon green tea powder
2 cups ice
1-2 teaspoons honey (optional for sweetness)

Directions:
Place all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth.

I love anything with mango in it, so I thought this tasted fantastic.  Both my daughters were on the fence about it, but to be fair, I have one that does not like mango in smoothie form.  One said she only tasted mango, while the other said the green tea too strong.  How do I process that information?  My girls were really of no help at all.

Knowing that both my daughters really do like green tea, I kept experimenting in the kitchen.  I decided to go with a simple hot green tea.  For this quick recipe I used 1 cup hot water, 1/4 teaspoon matcha green tea powder, and 1 teaspoon honey.  I just mixed up everything in the cup and handed it to my older daughter.  SUCCESS!  She was happily sipping away on her hot green tea, as I shook my head and chuckled because she is the one that said the green tea was too strong in the mango smoothie.  I made another cup for my younger daughter and she said it tasted great.

This green tea powder is not meant to be steeped, it is an incredibly fine powder that seems to dissolve in hot water, and as I said before a little goes a long way.  It seems that anything to do with green tea in my household seems to be a personalized experience.  I am already thinking about some green tea ice cream this summer, and even a green tea cheesecake.
