My younger daughter loves hash browns, but I have always found them such a burden to make. Between dragging out the box grater (aka bloody knuckles) and squeezing the raw potato shreds as hard as I can to remove as much moisture as possible, and then trying to cook them up, only to have an entire pan full devoted by the family before I get a bite down, it's not something that I bother to make very often.

The Spiral Vegetable Slicer made by Kitchen Supreme may have changed my thinking.  I received one in exchange for my honest review.  OK, it's more like my younger daughters review because she could hardly contain her excitement when she saw it.  We headed to the kitchen and she immediately took charge of the Spiral Veggie Slicer.  I was informed that she would be making  hash browns, then she got busy with her cooking project.

This bundle comes with the spiral slicer and safety veggie twister, cleaning brush and even it's own storage bag.  The slicer has a larger slicing side, and a smaller slicing side.  We have a personal preference for the large side, but the smaller side works well.  The veggie twister and spiralizer are dishwasher safe, and the brush does a great job of getting bits of food out of the cracks and crevices that do not flush out with running water.  I like the bag, I can just toss everything in and not be hunting around for the brush or the veggie twister.

Here is how my daughter made her hash browns.

1-2 red potatoes, washed
1-2 teaspoon cooking oil
salt and pepper to taste

Spiralize potatoes using larger side of veggie slicer.  No need to squeeze out excess moisture from potatoes as there is not much to start with.  Heat cooking oil in skillet over a medium high heat.  Add spiralized potatoes and season with salt and pepper to taste.  Let cook for 3-5 minutes (potatoes should have a nice golden brown color) and then flip.  Cook another 3-5 minutes until second side is a nice golden brown.  Serve immediately and top with favorite condiments.  My daughter loves to add shredded cheese to hers.

It is pretty easy overall to use the Spiral Veggie Slicer.  You just have to be sure whatever you are trying to spiralize will fit into the gadget.  Be sure to slice off one end so you can securely attach the veggie twister part and get the most spirals out of your veggie.  After that it;s just a matter of twisting and apply constant pressure while doing so.  It may take a little bit to get the knack of it, but once you do, its a snap to use.
