I love how quick and easy this dish is. The taste can be changed up with just a quick change up of cheese, and turkey burger can be used instead of hamburger meat. It is always hit with the family and leftovers are scarce.
1 lb hamburger
1 bag frozen mixed vegetables, 16 oz
2 cups shredded cheese
1 cup milk
2 tsp minced garlic
1 teaspoon seasoning salt
1 bag tater-tots (you need about 100 tater tots)
Pre-heat oven to 425. In a large skillet over medium high heat cook hamburger and garlic until meat is no longer pink. Drain off excess grease from meat. If skillet is large enough, you can place the meat back in, then add frozen veggies, cheese and milk and mix together. If not, put everything into a large mixing bowl and stir together. Be sure to add the frozen veggies to the meat first so it cools it off and your cheese will not melt on contact. Lightly grease a 9 x 11 baking dish, and place ingredients in dish. Spread meat and veggies evenly around the dish till top is relatively smooth, then start adding tater tots to cover the top in a single layer. My dish took 96 tater tots. Yep, I counted every single one of them. Place on oven and let cook for 30-45 minutes. Let sit for a few minutes before serving.
I threw some hot sauce on hubby's portion before I served up his plate, and I topped mine with some green salsa just to give it some extra zing. I've found that I prefer Ore-Ida Tater Tots for this dish, they add just enough saltiness to the dish that I don't need to use much in the mixture, and have a very satisfying crunch to them when they are cooked.
