Oven Recipe ~ French Bread Pizza

A while back I caught a fleeting glance at a friends Facebook post about french bread pizza.  I tucked it away into the vast cavern of my mind.  On a whim I ran to the store and picked up some pretty standard pizza toppings and a loaf of french bread and decided it was time to give french bread pizza a try.  I may have shot myself in the foot with this.  Take out pizza has always been my "I don't feel like cooking" go to meal.  Now everyone wants french bread pizza.







Ingredients:

French bread loaf
pizza sauce
shredded cheese
Favorite pizza toppings such as:
black olives
pepperoni
salami
diced onions
diced peppers
ham
pineapple


Directions:

Preheat oven to 425.  Slice french bread in half (like making a sandwich) then cut down to desired length.  I did mine in thirds.  For an extra crispy crust, scoop out some of the middle of the bread loaf.  Toast bread in oven for 5-8 minutes.  This helps the bread from getting soggy with the pizza sauce.  Remove bread from oven and let cool to touch.  Here is where the fun begins.  Spoon some pizza sauce onto toasted bread loafs and smear around to cover loaf.  Add some shredded cheese and then pile on your favorite toppings.  Add a little more cheese on top of topping and bake for 10-15 minutes.  Remove from oven and let cool slightly before devouring.


If you don't feel like munching off of a huge chunk of bread, you can cut them into strips about 2 inches across to make them more manageable.  My girls loved being able to make their own pizza's, and I did not have to listen to anyone complain about having to pick off toppings they don't like.  Win all around!
