Cupcake Challenge ~ Red Marbled Cupcakes

I love starting out with white cake mix from the box.  I have a small but growing collection of food gels, and have a blast when it comes to marbling cupcakes with different colors.

Directions:  Grab a box of white (or yellow) cake mix.  Preheat oven according to directions on the box and prepare cake batter according to directions.  Spoon about 1/3 of the batter into a smaller bowl and add desired food coloring.  Liquid food dyes will work, but will make your batter a tad more liquidy.   I used a red food gel for good contrast with the white cake.

Fill cupcake tin about 1/3 full with white batter (left row).  Add a small spoon full of the red batter (center row). Finish filling cupcake tin to 2/3 full with white batter, and stir up each one with toothpick to marbleize (right row).  You don't want to mix it up too much, just enough to get the red streaking through the white.  Bake according to directions on the box.

Of  course you can use any color you want.....and if you get REALLY crazy, try three colors!

My bloggy gal pals Becky over at Week99er and Amy over at Savvy Saving Couple and I have teamed up for this challenge.  Be sure to check back often for more of our recipes!  Please let us know if you tried one and liked it!
