Do you have any traditional day trips that just HAVE to be taken every year?  My girls and I have one that we have missed only once in the last umpteen years.  We hit the Scottish Highland Games.  This has been a great day trip for us over the last several years.  I'm not Scottish, but have just enough Irish and Welsh in me to claim the trip as a cultural necessity...that is the excuse I am using any ways.

I love that the Highland Games are a family friendly event.  You an hear bagpipe music all the way out to the parking lot and it gets you into the spirit of the place before you even hit the event gates.  People are dressed in all sorts of authentic and no so authentic garb.  My girls and I are now hooked on Scottish Meat Pies and eat them every year.
This is one of the few times a year that the word BARGAIN hold no meaning for me.  I allow myself to buy one CD every year from The Wicked Tinkerers and always grab a bag of English Toffee (Sadly the Toffee was not there this year).  With so much shopping around that ranges from re-sellers to one of a kind hand made goods, who can think of only bargain shopping?  (I have been known to look through sales racks first though)

The one place that always sucks up my money is the candy and treats vendor.  I just can not resist grabbing some goodies from them every year that I go.  While I do have a few tried and true favorites that I get every year no matter what, I always try and grab something that I've never had before.  This year...Dark Chocolate Kit Kat (swoon)

What are some of your favorite day trips?
